Background

I started in advertising in my home town, New York, with the J. Walter Thompson Company, and have since spent better than half my life overjoyed by working with the mix of brilliant, weird, obsessive, polished, hilarious, sanguine, educated, progressive, generous and principled people I've befriended in advertising and marketing.  In homage to all those who have inspired me, I long to be all those things, myself, and continue to look for them in business partners, clients, and vendors. No longer a young man, my interests have shifted to marketing that encourages better things for my own and subsequent generations. That's why I started PHS -- Public Health Strategy, aka fizz

Recent Accomplishments

In 2013, I collaborated on an analysis of advertising effectiveness with the California Department of Public Health and the National Opinion Research Center, and co-authored “Effects of social marketing for obesity prevention among low-income mothers” (presented at the 141st American Public Health Association annual meeting). At about the same time, I developed the logic model (essentially an overarching strategy with rationale) for the state's mental health campaign, ushered in by voter approval of California Proposition 63.
